Most teachers realise that hatching chicks in the classroom is an invaluable experience for children and it can easily be integrated into the curriculum. It is more difficult however to organise the project, sourcing equipment, fertile eggs etc., and to develop the confidence that you need to hatch successfully. This is where Durham Hens can help!
We will supply everything that you need to incubate eggs in school from start to finish. You will receive:
- Fully automatic incubator
- Hand delivery and set up
- 12 eggs from a variety of breeds
- Full clear instructions
- Candler
- Brooding box with electric hen (heater)
- Food, feeder, drinker
- Removal of all equipment and chicks at the end of the hire period (chicks can be kept if you have good homes for them)
- Full telephone support for staff throughout
The hatching process takes 21 days. We will deliver your pack on a Monday and collect on the Friday after the chicks hatch, when they are approximately 2-3 days old. This means chicks will hatch during the week and there is no need for staff to be in school at weekends.
