Durham Hens Vaccination Programme

Our hybrid point of lay pullets are fully vaccinated. Their thorough programme begins at day 1 and is completed by 16 weeks of age. This gives them lifetime cover and no boosters are required. They are vaccinated against:

Mareks
Salmonella
Coccidiosis
Infectious Bursal
Infectious Bronchitis
Newcastle Disease
Salmonella Enteritidis
Mycoplasma Gallisepticum
Variant Infectious Bronchitis
Avian Rhinotracheitis
Avian Encephaolomyelitis
Egg Drop Syndrome

We vaccine all the pure breed chicks we produce against the two most common diseases that kill young chickens:

Mareks (given at 1 day old)
Coccidiosis (given at 4 days old)

Please note that vaccinated hens do not make unvaccinated hens ill. The vaccine viruses that we use cannot cause disease in other birds.

"Marek's disease virus is everywhere. In fact, the vaccination of poultry for Marek's disease is a race to see which virus is going to win in the bird.....the vaccine virus or the disease causing virus. While it is true that Marek's disease vaccinated birds are infected with the vaccine virus for life, I am not aware of them shedding the vaccine virus. The good news is that the vaccine viruses do not cause disease so your chickens are safe and not "Typhoid Marys." The other vaccines used in poultry do not cause "Typhoid Marys" except for almost all vaccines used to protect against Infectious Laryngotracheitis."
