A multiple award-winning  family business established in 2007

IMPORTANT NOTICE

A case of Avian Influenza had been confirmed at Frosterley, 10 km from Durham Hens. As our property straddles the edge of the 10 km APHA surveillance zone, we are unable to sell hens, chicks, or fertile eggs until the restrictions are lifted.

Not trading for up to 10 weeks in peak season will reduce our business income significantly and decimate our cash flow. The hens need to be fed and tended until they can be sold, hopefully, in August. As the hens can't be moved from our premises for so long, the economic decision would be to cull them and reduce our losses, but we are an ethical company and will not do that.

Please support Durham Hens and help us get through this difficult time. You can:

Pre-order hens now to collect them when the restrictions are lifted. Buy poultry equipment and supplies. Our shop will be open on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, or you can order online for nationwide delivery or to 'click and collect'.

Buy gift cards for future purchases, which can be redeemed online and are valid for 2 years.

Choose Mini Machines to replace, repair or service your small tractor or carry out jobs that require a mini tractor or small digger. See www.minimachines.uk for details.

Product Details

There has been a confirmed case of Avian Influenza at Frosterley, County Durham, which is 10 km from Durham Hens. As we are on the edge of the 10km surveillance zone (the line cuts through the middle of our property), we are not able to sell hens, chicks, or fertile eggs until the restrictions are lifted.

These restrictions will have a profoundly detrimental effect on our business at a particularly busy time of year. Restrictions are usually in place for up to 10 weeks. During that time, our income will be significantly reduced and cash flow decimated, because the hens will still need to be housed, fed and cared for until they can be sold, hopefully, sometime in August. As the hens cannot be moved off our premises until then, the economic decision would be to cull them to reduce our losses, but we will not cull healthy hens.
